Luciano Troja's "At Home With Zindars" is a short video about the award-winning CD At Home With Zindars by the Italian pianist Luciano Troja, who will perform a couple of songs from the album.
It is the journey of a pianist into the world and music of Earl Zindars, jazz and classical composer (Chicago 1927-San Francisco 2005). Earl Zindars is known, principally, for the friendship and musical kinship with the legendary jazz pianist Bill Evans, who played and recorded several of his compositions throughout his entire career.

El Taller

Karl Berger's Improvisers Orchestra is a 25+ players’ ensemble of extraordinary professional improvisers. Conducted in Karl’s inimitable style, developed at the legendary Creative Music Studio, this orchestra explores original themes, melodies from the world’s folk traditions, compositions by Don Cherry or Ornette Coleman, as well as musical ideas that arise spontaneously in solo/duo/trio contributions by the players. Karl introduces a new approach and experience of blending and harmonizing improvised sound. One of the orchestra's trademarks is Ingrid Sertso’s uncanny vocalization and poetry.


Our last New York performance this season, promises to be an exceptional one, with violist Jason Hwang, trumpeters Steven Bernstein and Herb Robertson, and vocalist Tom Buckner joining in.

All net proceeds support the Creative Music Studio’s Archive Project, the preservation and re-mastering of over 400 historic CMS recordings from the 70s and 80s of some of the finest innovators in jazz, improvisation, and world music. The Archive Project is in collaboration with Columbia University.

Ray Anderson, trombone

Named five straight years as best trombonist in the Down Beat Critics Poll and declared "the most exciting slide brass player of his generation" by the Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD, Anderson has shown remarkable range.  He has led or co-led a daunting assortment of tradition-minded and experimental groups, big bands, blues and funk projects and even a trombone quartet.  He is recognized as an original compelling composer and has recorded more than 70 of his own compositions with these groups.  In the tradition of Louis Armstrong, he is a colorful and exuberant performer and a spirited vocalist who induces smiles with his unusual split tones and screech effects.

Lions For No Reason

Lions For No Reason is a spontaneous composition ensemble weaving a jazz and modern classical vocabulary through a musical interfacing of free music, funk, chamber music, hip hop, poetry and ethereal sound worlds.  Lions explores these musical worlds through notated compositions and entirely spontaneously generated ones, creating a metamorphic musical space that has the capacity to propel itself toward any instantaneously conceivable sonic potential.
